Speeding - Charleston

Issued: 12 Nov 2008

NORTHERN Constabulary is working to clamp down on drivers not adhering to speed restrictions around schools in the Charleston area of Inverness.
Concerns have been raised recently from the Kinmylies Council, Charleston Academy along with members of the public that a great number of drivers are not sticking to the speed limit in the General Booth Road area, that has a restriction of 20mph during school hours.
Officers from the Community Beats Team have been deployed to the area and a total of nine drivers have been charged so far in connection with speeding offences.
Local Area Commander for Inverness, Chief Inspector Julian Innes commented: "We have responded to concerns in the Charleston area, but we are also looking at this matter across the whole of Inverness as we have received similar reports throughout the city.
"What is more concerning is that this is happening in close proximity to schools where a large number of pupils are walking to and from the grounds.
"This is about irresponsible driver behaviour and action is being taken by Police to improve road safety and change driver behaviour."
Police in Inverness will continue to carry out enforcement checks across Inverness especially in the vicinity of schools but would encourage members of the public to observe any speed restrictions that are in place and be aware of their surroundings when driving.
